Washingtonian Recognizes Squire Patton Boggs for National Security Expertise

Washingtonian magazine recognized partners Shannon Reaves and Chris Griner among a select group of lawyers in Washington DC handling high stakes national security matters in its annual list of Top Lawyers. The designation comes as Squire Patton Boggs continues the expansion of its roster of lawyers and geopolitical risk professionals focused on national security issues.

Mr. Reaves serves as co-chair of the firm’s International Trade & Foreign Investment Practice. He specializes in conducting reviews for cross-border transactions before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS), managing matters related to industrial security, such as FOCI mitigation before the US departments of Defense and Energy, and export control compliance. Mr. Reaves has been negotiating Foreign Ownership, Control or Influence (FOCI) mitigation agreements, including special security agreements, proxy agreements, security control agreements and FOCI board resolutions for more than 15 years.

Mr. Griner is a partner in the firm’s International Trade & Foreign Investment Practice, specializing in assisting both foreign and domestic companies in navigating the complex realm of government regulations associated with the acquisition or investment in entities deemed as US national security assets. He is widely acknowledged as an expert in national security and matters relating to CFIUS, playing a pivotal role in shaping the FOCI mitigation arrangements currently used by the US government. Mr. Griner previously served as an attorney advisor in the Office of the General Counsel of the Department of Defense, and he holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, USAF, Retired.
