Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs has added Senior Advisor Anthony Vinci to its growing team of national security and geopolitical risk professionals.
Dr. Vinci was CTO and Associate Director for Capabilities at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). His addition follows that of Defense Secretary Mark Esper and other senior hires in a continuing expansion of the firm’s suite of expertise in this area.
“National security is a substantial area of growth for our firm, and we are committed building the premiere practice to support the needs of clients in this evolving space,” commented Chair and Global CEO Mark Ruehlmann. “Anthony has worked at the top of his field and brings a unique perspective on how advancing technologies and changing geoeconomics impact our clients.”
“We continue to see a rapid expansion of the use of tools of national economic power, including trade policy and tariff policy, export controls, outbound investment restrictions, CFUIS, sanctions, and procurement restrictions,” said Global Managing Partner Ed Newberry. “We expect that to continue in a second Trump Administration and are delighted to have Anthony as part of our expanding team.”
Dr. Vinci was a senior intelligence official and served as the first Chief Technology Officer and Associate Director for Capabilities at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the US intelligence agency whose primary mission is collecting, analyzing, and distributing geospatial intelligence and satellite imagery analysis in support of national security. As CTO, he drove the agency’s efforts to bring Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the enterprise and to form public private partnerships with Silicon Valley and other commercial technology centers. As Associate Director, he was a member of the agency’s Executive Committee and responsible for overseeing NGA’s offices of technology, R&D, contracting, financial management, program development and strategy.
Dr. Vinci was most recently a Managing Director in the Supply Chain and Strategic Opportunities fund of Cerberus Capital Management, which invests in businesses driving next-generation technologies and capabilities that advance supply chain integrity.
Previously, he was on the core management team at Bridgewater Associates and served on the Science and Technology Committee of the Board of the MITRE Corporation. Dr. Vinci is a board member or advisor to several emerging technology and national security companies and is an Adjunct Senior Fellow of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).
He received his Ph.D. in International Relations from The London School of Economics and studied Philosophy at Reed College and the University of Oxford. Dr. Vinci is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and is the author of the forthcoming book: The Fourth Intelligence Revolution (Henry Holt & Co., Macmillan Publishers, 2025).
