Dr. Matthias Werner is a director in the Real Estate Practice Group and head of real estate asset management and asset deal transactions in Germany. He advises and represents clients on all aspects of real estate-related issues, in particular, regarding issues of realty and commercial lease law.

Matthias handles asset deal transactions, as well as property developments, and advises regarding all issues of asset and property management, in particular commercial lease law, realty law and hereditary building rights, and the rights of condominiums and public building law issues such as planning law. He also advises clients in litigation and arbitration procedures. He furthermore is appointed as a lecturer and examiner by the joint examination office of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg, and the Berlin court of appeals (Kammergericht).

Matthias has been working in the real estate industry for over 20 years, inter alia as general manager of an asset and property management business in Berlin, and since 2008 as attorney-at-law. Before joining our firm, he worked for international and German law firms and, in this capacity, has worked on numerous transactions of midcap and large-cap real estate investors, inter alia:

  • Advising a leading German real estate company regarding its extensive healthcare/senior living portfolio.
  • Acquisition of a platform for project developments and project developments of ISARIA Group by Deutsche Wohnen SE.
  • Acquisition of GBP Group, with approximately 16,000 residential units in Germany, by ZBI AG.
  • Acquisition of two project developments (forward deals) in Düsseldorf and Frankfurt by leading German project developers ZBI AG.
  • Acquisition of the Weidtpark Corner project development in Berlin (forward deal) from DWI Group by Generali Group.
  • Acquisition of Olympus Campus in Hamburg and commercial buildings in Berlin and Stuttgart by Hines.
  • Advising EQT on the sale of the healthcare chain Charleston to KOS (which purchased the operational business) and Primonial (which purchased the real estate).
  • Advising investors regarding wind park funds, inter alia Enercon Wind Onshore Deutschland (Teilfonds 1) regarding its investment in five wind parks in Brandenburg and Saxonia.
  • Sale of a real estate portfolio (Trinity Portfolio) by Real I.S.
  • Sale of a portfolio in Berlin by GSG.
  • Acquisition of the shopping mall Life in Munich by Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW).
  • Acquisition of four major office buildings in Thuringia, Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern by the VALUES public sector funds.
  • Advising landowners in a planning law procedure of the State of Berlin (approximately 210,000 square miles) and advising on the sale of the co-ownership shares to Bauwert group.
  • Acquisition and sale of a shopping mall and further real estate in core locations in major German cities by a significant foreign bank.
  • Acquisition of a luxury hotel in Berlin by an international consortium.
