Lucy Webster is a partner in the Litigation team in London and co-leads our dedicated Women’s Sport Group. Lucy is recognised particularly for her work in sports, media and environmental, social and governance (ESG), including renewables and climate change. Lucy advises on strategic and legal risk, and is an expert in complex and high-value cross-border disputes, including in the CAS. Lucy also advises high-profile clients on reputational risk and management, including as a material factor in the strategic direction of business interests.

Lucy's expertise extends to all types of dispute resolution, including court proceedings, international arbitration, mediations involving multiple stakeholders and complex expert determination processes. Lucy is confident working in a cross-jurisdictional environment and regularly advises and collaborates with international stakeholders, including those based in challenging jurisdictions or countries with diverse cultural norms.

Lucy is recognised as a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500, where she is described as “calm, unflappable, hugely diligent and absolutely focused”. Sports and Media

  • Advising Premiership Women’s Rugby on elements of its establishment as an independent corporate entity for the elite women’s domestic rugby competition.
  • Advising on a High Court dispute concerning the resurfacing of a world-class racing circuit used by Formula 1, MotoGP and other motor racing series.
  • Representing a show-jumper in a Court of Arbitration for Sport ad hoc arbitration concerning their selection to compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Following our success at an overnight hearing, the athlete went on to win a gold medal at the games.
  • Representing an American journalist in the High Court and Court of Appeal, in defence of claims in libel, malicious falsehood and misuse of private information, and involving the extra-territorial application of GDPR, involving issues in the US, Israel and Russia.
  • Advising a global sportswear brand on multiple long-term sponsorship deals with several high-profile sports teams, including in the Premier League and La Liga.
  • Advising on a hosting agreement with the Ladies European Tour for the Solheim Cup.
  • Representing a music manager and publisher in a dispute with a band involving alleged copyright infringement in a song.
  • Representing a deceased music artist’s estate in various High Court actions involving alleged fraud and infringements of performer’s rights.
  • Advising a Hollywood production company in an Independent Film and Television Alliance arbitration concerning the distribution rights in Spain of a major film.
  • Representing a global airline trade association in two High Court claims by which it sought to protect valuable database rights and key strategic interests.

Clean Energy

  • Representing a multinational investment management corporation in a regulatory investigation by Ofgem concerning renewable energy assets, an associated civil fraud claim and related judicial review proceedings.
  • Representing a wind turbine manufacturer in a multimillion-pound dispute arising out of a catastrophic turbine fire.
  • Advising an aerospace multinational on its net-zero emissions plan and strategy, including risk analysis.
  • Acting for the UK’s largest wind industry participant, in proceedings in the Employment Tribunal and Administrative Court relating to the unlawful imposition of a statutory levy.
  • Acting in a London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) arbitration for a Japanese trading house in a dispute concerning emissions credits under the Kyoto Protocol and the disputed termination of an Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement.

Pro Bono

  • Representing members of the Afghan judiciary and its broader justice system whose lives were at grave risk after the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in 2021. This included assisting their efforts to relocate to the UK/another safe jurisdiction, as well as ongoing work to support those who have resettled in the UK to resume their legal careers.
  • Advising Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sports, a non-profit organisation that rates and benchmarks the sustainability performance of key stakeholders in the professional sports industry through a bespoke reporting framework. Lucy also sits on its Stakeholder Advisory Committee.
