John Sun is an associate in the firm’s Washington DC office, focusing on patent protection and prosecution. He leverages 20 years of experience as a software developer and systems analyst to advise clients across technology-related industries.

John’s practice covers an array of technology, including cloud computing, system management, AI/machine learning, wireless communications, video processing and coding, as well as Decentralized Applications (dApps) involving blockchain. He has managed and protected patent portfolios of US, PCT and foreign patent applications in the European Patent Office (EPO), China, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

Prior to earning his law degree, John earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in computer science and began his career developing systems and applications for the financial services sector. He is certified in AI programming and both a Sun Certified Developer and Programmer for the Java 2 Platform. During law school, he interned with the US International Trade Commission (Office of the General Counsel as well as Office of Unfair Import Investigations).
