Gorka Navea is a partner in the Competition – Antitrust team sharing his time between our Brussels and Madrid offices.
Gorka has more than 25 years of experience in European and Spanish competition law and regulation. He advises clients in all matters relating to cartels, abuses of dominance and restrictive practices, as well as in merger cases, before the European Commission´s DG COMP, the Spanish CNMC and other competition authorities across the world.
He has worked extensively on international cartel investigations and has significant expertise in the application of competition rules to the technology and life sciences industries.
Prior to joining the firm, Gorka was a partner in a West Coast law firm specializing in technology. Before that, he was a deputy head of unit at the Cartels Directorate of DG Competition of the European Commission (EC), where he investigated and prosecuted many cartels matters, and led the process for proposed settlements between the EC’s cartel directorate and companies under investigation. Previously, he served as a member of the cabinet of former European Commission Vice President Joaquín Almunia. In this role, Gorka was responsible for all cartel investigations, and all merger and antitrust cases in the pharmaceutical, health, life sciences, food, basic industries, manufacturing and transportation sectors. He joined DG COMP in 2008, in the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) mergers unit. Gorka started his legal career in international firms in Madrid and Brussels.
Gorka is listed as a leading antitrust lawyer in Chambers Europe 2022, where he is described as “extremely skilled in competition law and is very service-oriented” and it is noted that clients “can give him a call and he’s able to immediately talk through the issues”.
