Squire Patton Boggs won ‘International Deal of the Year’ and ‘Deal of the Year (£50 million+)’ last night at Insider's 30th Anniversary Midlands Dealmakers Awards.
International Deal of the Year was Knighthead Capital's investment in Birmingham City and ownership of St. Andrew’s stadium.
The judges commented: “This was a truly transformative transaction, which not only saved one of the Midlands' best loved football clubs but laid the foundations of a massive investment in the centre of Birmingham, worth billions.”
The team advising Knighthead Capital on the deal was led by Corporate partner David Hull, supported by a multijurisdictional team which included associates Indy Bening and James Pascoe (Corporate), partner Charlotte Møller and associate Rebecca Terrace (Restructuring and Insolvency), and director Ilze Vigo (Financial Services).
The winner of Deal of the Year (£50 million+) was Cooper Parry’s acquisition of Haines Watts London. The judges described it as “A game changer of a deal.”
The team advising Haines Watts South East on the transaction was led by Corporate partner Mark Yeo, and included partner Paul Mann, senior associates Charlotte Yeldon and Matt Lappin, and associates James Le Seelleur, Simon Watts-Morgan and Maisie Hodges.
The firm was also a finalist for ‘Corporate Law Firm of the Year’, with Tom Durrant named a finalist in the category of ‘Corporate Lawyer of the Year’.
