Squire Patton Boggs has advised Nimble, a UK-based digital engineering consultancy, on a majority investment in the business by European technology solutions and services firm SCC.
The team advising Nimble was led by Corporate partner Mae Salem and included Corporate partner Paul Mann, Corporate associates Emily Downie and Amelia Sharkey, and Tax Strategy and Benefits partner Patrick Ford.
Since 2016, Nimble has been helping clients discover their full potential, working with them to create bespoke digital products and services.
Founded in 1975, and with significant footprints in the UK, France, and Spain, SCC has evolved from its reseller roots to offer services in line with technology innovations and customer demand.
The opportunity to engage with SCC’s public and private sector clients was the initial draw for the Nimble team, as well as the opportunity to expand the company’s reach into Europe, and to extend its services by leveraging SCC’s delivery teams in Romania and Vietnam.
Commenting on the support received from Squire Patton Boggs, Finance Director Iain Ness said: “When SCC’s investment in Nimble completed, I felt like I lost a group of colleagues. The team at SPB aren’t just experts in their field, they’re genuinely collaborative. Whilst they can give you the solid textbook answer, they also understand commercial reality and are quick to provide a pragmatic view. The other quality which sets them apart is that they’re good teachers - I never felt left behind in conversations, which meant that when it came to make difficult decisions, instead of deferring to someone who ‘knew better,’ I could help make an informed call. In-house tax expertise also made a real difference to the pace we could complete the deal at. SPB are now my go-to for commercial or tax support.”
SCC’s majority investment in Nimble expands its capability in digital transformation services, part of a plan that will see the company build a 2,000-person European digital consultancy within the decade. It will operate Nimble as a separate company under the guidance of CEO Chris Roberts and the current Nimble management team, with additional strategy support to be provided by senior SCC executives.
Mae Salem said: “We are pleased to have supported Chris Roberts, Iain Ness and the team at Nimble on this investment that will help them build on their achievements and take the business to the next level in the UK and on the international stage.”
