The Squire Patton Boggs Foundation is proud to announce its 2023 Fellows. On May 31 the Foundation welcomed 30 outstanding and dedicated law and public policy students into the program. This is the largest Fellowship Class in the Foundation’s history.
Since its launch in 2005, the Fellowship Program has been awarding annual summer fellowships to 356 exceptional law and public policy students who demonstrate a steadfast commitment to public service. This year’s Fellows are from 19 US law schools and a public policy institute in Europe.
The Fellows commit their summers to advancing law and public policy issues through internships at non-profit institutions, government agencies, and domestic or international organizations. This year, the locations of Fellowships range from Brussels to Los Angeles to San Francisco and Miami, with a significant number in Ohio and Washington, D.C., among other locations.
Foundation President John Oberdorfer welcomed the 2023 Fellows, applauding their dedication and the superb range of their Fellowships: Five are with Public Defender’s Offices, several are with US government departments, several are working on issues pertaining to juveniles and children, three on human rights, and several on closing the access to justice gap. Drawing from the late Congressman John Lewis, he commended them for following the highest calling of their hearts.
“The Fellowship Program is very special because it promotes the essential role of public service in the practice of law by engaging, inspiring, and financially supporting law students to become the next generation of public interest advocates and leaders in the US and around the world,” said Oberdorfer. “We are very proud of the Class of 2023.”
Foundation Chairman and former U.S. Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater added, “For nearly 20 years, the Fellowship Program has provided opportunities for students seeking to engage in public interest work during their law school summers. The students’ unwavering commitment to public service not only benefits their professional endeavors, but also substantially impacts their respective organizations and communities at the local, national, and global levels. We are pleased to promote public service careers in partnership with the twenty schools in our Deans’ Circle.”
