Louisville Business First has named Squire Patton Boggs partner and co-chair of the Supreme Court & Appellate Practice Benjamin Beaton to its 2020 Forty Under 40 class. Celebrating its 25th awards series, this class was selected for their talent, drive, diversity and recognition as the region’s up-and-coming leaders.
Mr. Beaton maintains a national practice focused on complex appeals, regulatory disputes and commercial litigation, with a concentration on heavily regulated sectors such as healthcare, financial services, insurance, or energy. In recent years, he has developed a niche expertise in SEC market-structure regulation, representing several of the world’s largest financial-services firms. On a regional basis, Mr. Beaton handles a wide variety of matters involving the federal courts within the Sixth Circuit, the Kentucky Supreme Court, managed-care disputes, procurement and bankruptcy litigation, constitutional law, and intellectual property. Mr. Beaton began his legal career as a law clerk for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the US Supreme Court and for Judge Raymond Randolph at the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit. He has authored more than a dozen briefs at the U.S. Supreme Court and hundreds more in the federal and state appellate and trial courts.
A Kentucky native, Mr. Beaton co-teaches constitutional law as an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law and is a member of the Louis D. Brandeis Inn of Court. Mr. Beaton serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Centre College, his alma mater, and served on the search committees for Centre’s recent hiring of a new Dean and new President.
