Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that Peter F. Stewart has joined the firm’s London office as a partner. He joins from Clyde & Co., with a practice spanning energy and infrastructure projects and international arbitration, with a specialty representing sovereign entities in Africa, South America and elsewhere.
Lisa Henneberry, the firm’s global practice group leader for Energy & Natural Resources, commented, “I am delighted to welcome Peter to the firm. His global perspective and diverse practice orientation make him a great fit for our firm that will add even greater depth to our energy, infrastructure and international arbitration practices.”
Mr. Stewart represents national oil companies, governments and state entities in upstream oil and gas and mining matters in emerging markets, including exploration and production agreements, long-term gas supply arrangements, finance, petroleum regulations, farm outs, contract renegotiations and international arbitrations. Long based in London, and previously in Dubai, Mr. Stewart travels regularly to Africa and South America to meet with senior members of government, ministerial officials and national companies in the extractives and energy sectors. His clients are located across Africa and South America, including in Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia and Guyana. He is consistently recognized in Chambers and The Legal 500 for his work in Africa.
Commenting on his move to the firm, Mr. Stewart said, “Squire Patton Boggs has leading positions in several areas that align well with my practice, particularly its historical work representing sovereign entities across Africa and other regions in major energy projects and international arbitrations. I’m looking forward to joining the team in London and working with my new colleagues around the world.”
Jane Haxby, who becomes the firm’s London office managing partner on January 1, 2020, commented, “Building differentiated, global practices in our London office remains a key strategic priority, and Peter is another key addition to the firm.”
Squire Patton Boggs has made several recent strategic hires to its London office. Former Ashurst managing partner James Collis and former Herbert Smith Freehills partner Ian Yeo both joined the firm’s Financial Services Practice in July and September, respectively. The firm also recently launched its Commodities and Shipping Group with a Singapore-based team with a substantial UK practice.
