Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that Lydia de la Torre, a 20-year veteran of EU, US and international data protection law, has joined us as of counsel in the firm’s Data Privacy, Cybersecurity & Digital Assets Practice, based in the firm’s Palo Alto, California office.
“We are thrilled to have Lydia as part of our team. Lydia has unique expertise regarding the privacy laws of this country’s individual states, and particularly the California Consumer Privacy Act. Being dual-qualified in California and Madrid, Spain, she also brings considerable GDPR experience to the table. Lydia’s arrival will provide us with an enhanced ability to advise clients on compliance strategies in regard to the CCPA and other state privacy laws, while serving as a bridge to the EU for clients with global requirements,” said Ann LaFrance, partner and co-chair of the firm’s Data Privacy, Cybersecurity & Digital Assets Practice.
Ms. de la Torre comes to the firm from Santa Clara Law School, where she was co-director of the Data Privacy Certificate Program, where she will continue to teach comparative data protection law. She also spent time at Axiom, a global leading alternative legal services provider, where she served as senior data protection and privacy counsel for Fortune 500 and pre-IPO technology companies. In that role, she developed wide-ranging experience providing assessments and advice on US and international data protection, GDPR, financial privacy, marketing and advertising compliance, and information security legal issues. Prior to her tenure with Axiom, she served as privacy/data protection counsel at PayPal.
“Lydia is a powerful addition to our California team, our US practice and our global platform,” said David Elkins, partner in the Palo Alto office. “We are also very pleased to deepen the firm’s connections with Santa Clara University Law School. We have had great experiences with the school’s graduates, and have long been impressed with its High Tech Law Institute, and more recently its Privacy Law Certificate program.”
“Squire Patton Boggs has a global reputation in the data privacy and cybersecurity space, and continues to be at the forefront of the industry’s ever-changing landscape,” said Ms. de la Torre. “I am excited to be a part of a team where my diverse background will contribute to our global team’s ability to deliver a comprehensive and versatile approach to addressing clients’ data privacy and cybersecurity challenges.”
