Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that former U.S. Congressmen Joseph Crowley (D-NY) and Bill Shuster (R-PA) are joining the firm effective immediately. With this hire, the firm adds two of the most sought after former members of the U.S. House of Representatives to its global public policy practice. We welcome their arrival.
These additions enhance the firm’s unrivalled bipartisan credentials that already include former Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH), Representative Jack Kingston (R-GA), Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater (D-AR) and a deep roster of experienced professionals spanning major capitals across six continents.
“Policy is a fundamental part of our global practice and differentiates how we are able to solve complex problems for clients. These additions continue our tradition as a ‘first and one stop’ for senior executives seeking both a legal and legislative solution,” said Ed Newberry Squire Patton Boggs’ Global Managing Partner − Public Policy, Investigatory and Regulatory Solutions.
Rep. Crowley served as a U.S. Representative from New York State from 1999 to 2019. He was a senior member of the House Ways & Means Committee and Chair of the House Democratic Caucus from 2017 to 2019. “We were honored to hear from many of the great firms in town since leaving Congress, and chose what we think is the very best place to continue our careers. Serving in Congress was an honor of a lifetime and I look forward to working on many of the same issues in this new role. It’s exciting to be joining a firm with such a storied history, great people and to be doing so with a dear friend.”
Rep. Shuster served as the U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 9th congressional district from 2001 to 2019 and was chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He commented, “I am proud of my service in Congress, especially the last six years as Chairman of the T&I Committee. Joining Squire Patton Boggs gives Joe and me an opportunity to work with the best in the business on tackling some of our nation’s most pressing needs, including prioritizing an infrastructure agenda.”
These additions continue an aggressive growth plan for Squire Patton Boggs as it builds upon its leadership position in the global policy arena across the US, the European Union, the UK, Asia and Australia.
In September, longtime House Appropriations Committee senior staffer Dave LesStrang joined the firm. Former UK Ambassador to Helsinki and Group Director of External Affairs at Vodafone Matthew Kirk joined the firm’s London office in May. In April, David Stewart, the former Majority Staff Director of the House Ways & Means Committee, joined the firm in Washington DC.
