Leading infrastructure and project finance publication IJ Global has awarded the Los Ramones II Sur Pipeline Project as “Latin American Midstream Oil & Gas Deal of the Year” at its 2014 Americas Awards dinner, held on March 12 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. Squire Patton Boggs served as lead development counsel for its long-standing client Pemex, the Mexican state-owned petroleum company, on the Project as well as on the remaining portions of the overall Los Ramones natural gas pipeline project in Mexico.
The Los Ramones II Sur Pipeline Project is the southernmost 291 kilometer segment of the Los Ramones natural gas pipeline project, and is expected to entail a capital investment in excess of US$1.2 billion. The combined phases of the overall project will extend approximately 1,000 kilometers from Southern Texas to Central Mexico, and is expected to require a total combined investment of over US$3 billion. The resulting project is expected to increase US natural gas exports to Mexico by over 40 percent and will enable Mexico to address increasing demand for natural gas and electricity. Squire Patton Boggs has played an integral role on all four phases of the Los Ramones Pipeline project.
“It has been a gratifying two years for us working this historic project,” said Alvaro Mestre, Squire Patton Boggs partner and one of the lead lawyers on the Project. “Our team at Squire Patton Boggs has been continuously involved in large-scale energy infrastructure development work in Mexico since the mid-1990s, but this most recent opportunity to counsel Pemex was particularly satisfying since it required an impressive collaborative and simultaneous effort by countless players in order to meet the client’s tight timing requirements across all phases of the Project.”
“We feel very honored that IJGlobal has made this award,” said Paul O’Hop, also a Squire Patton Boggs partner and another lead lawyer on the Los Ramones II Sur Project. “It is a wonderful tribute to the commitment and support of our client at Pemex, the other sponsors and lenders, as well as the closely coordinated efforts of the commercial, legal and finance teams.”
The Squire Patton Boggs team was led by Mr. Mestre and Mr. O’Hop, with support from Kevin Levey, Jim Morgan, and Purvin Patel, as well as from Loana Martin who provided invaluable in-country support throughout the project.
