Matthew Palmer is a leader in the firm’s Columbus office, where he serves both as head of the office’s Corporate Practice Group and the chair of the Hiring Committee.
Companies in the manufacturing, private equity, healthcare, financial services, insurance, mining and waste management industries benefit from Matt’s precise approach to assessing risk and devising strategies for achieving clients’ business goals. He advises clients on completing all varieties of M&A transactions on the buy side and on the sell side, including mergers, joint ventures, asset and stock acquisitions and sale transactions, controlled auctions and equity investments. His practice also involves general corporate matters, including corporate governance and drafting and negotiating various commercial contracts (including supply and licensing agreements, distribution agreements and sales agent agreements).
In his spare time, Matt serves as an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Additionally, Matt is a member of the Board of Directors of The Columbus Marathon where he also holds the offices of Secretary and Chief Legal Officer.
Matt was the recipient of The Burton Award for Legal Achievement for his article, “Where Have You Gone, Law and Economics Judges? Economic Analysis Advice to Courts Considering the Enforceability of Covenants Not to Compete Signed After At-Will Employment Has Commenced,” published in Ohio State Law Journal, Vol. 66:1105. He is also the author of articles in other areas of study, including Eastern Economic Journal.
