On April 2, 2015, Law No (1) of 2015 amending certain provisions of the Qatar Labour Law (Law No. (14) of 2004) was published in Qatar’s Official Gazette No. 7 of 2015. An unofficial English translation of the law by Squire Patton Boggs is available on our website.
As noted in our earlier Client Alert , the principal aim of the new law is to amend Article 66 of the Labour Law to require employers to transfer salaries to employee bank accounts in Qatar to ensure proper and timely payment.
This compliance deadline may be extended for another six months or more upon a decision of the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.

Beginning May 2, 2015, employers have six months to comply with this new requirement. Penalties for violations of the new Article 66 are imprisonment of not more than one month and a fine between QAR2,000 and QAR6,000.
This compliance deadline may be extended for another six months or more upon a decision of the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.
