María Pía García Henríquez
Senior Associate
María Pía García Henríquez advises clients in general transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, real estate matters, consumer protection and intellectual property matters. She provides ongoing advice on corporate, commercial, intellectual property, regulatory and tax-related matters, and assists corporate clients with their day-to-day needs.
María Pía also focuses her practice on civil aviation matters, assisting airlines with regulatory and corporate upkeep, advice on local legal matters, as well as the obtainment of permits and authorizations from local regulatory entities for the operation of new routes and other needs of foreign air carriers.
- Assisted a major shoe manufacturing company, registered locally as Free Zone Company, with corporate upkeep and labor matters, including assistance with handling two labor unions that operated within the 14-plant company.
- Part of the team that defended a world-renowned trademark, owned by one of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies, against unlawful use by a local competitor.
- Worked with one of the top five beverages companies in the world to defend its trademarks and industrial designs registered in the Dominican Republic.
- Assisting local and foreign clients with corporate up keeping of local companies and branches, including fiscal, labor, contractual and regulatory matters.
- Participating in due diligence procedures for the acquisition of companies, real estate property and other assets in the country.
- Assisting foreign airlines with corporate and regulatory upkeep, as well as providing advice regarding Dominican laws and regulations on a wide variety of subjects.
- Assisting foreign companies in tender processes in the Dominican Republic, as well as registering foreign and local companies as providers of the Dominican government.
- Assisting local banks, savings and loans associations, as well as other regulated entities of the financial sector with corporate governance and regulatory compliance matters.
- Advising foreign and local companies on intellectual property matters, including registration of trademarks, tradenames and works protected by copyright.
- Assisting foreign companies in the protection of their world-renowned trademarks and trade dress before regulatory entities and courts.
- Assisting foreign companies in the obtainment of patents, industrial designs and models of use in the Dominican Republic, as well as in the defense of their patent rights in the country.
- Advising foreign and local clients on consumer protection, distribution and antitrust regulation in the Dominican Republic.
- Advising governmental entities on administrative law matters, including regulatory governmental entities of the energy and mining sectors, among others.
- Advising private clients regarding administrative agreements executed with the Dominican government, particularly in the construction sector.
