(PERTH – 8 December, 2014) – Squire Patton Boggs has announced the appointment of one of Australia’s leading restructuring, insolvency and litigation partners, Amanda Banton.  Ms. Banton, who was a partner at Piper Alderman, will join the firm’s Sydney office with a team of 11 lawyers in January 2015.

Ms. Banton’s practice encompasses a broad range of corporate, commercial and insolvency related litigation, with a particular emphasis on matters relating to the Australian Corporations legislation, bankruptcy, State and Federal trade legislation, negligence and contractual disputes.

Ms. Banton has led numerous significant disputes in the Federal Court and High Court of Australia, and she is the only litigation lawyer in Australia to successfully act against Standard & Poors in respect to the AAA rating of certain financial products.

“We are very pleased to welcome Amanda and her team to our firm.  Amanda is known amongst her peers as a strategic thinker, a true leader and a lawyer of choice for complex litigation and insolvency recovery matters,” commented Australia Managing Partner, John Poulsen.

Ms. Banton’s appointment will take the firm’s total partner headcount in Australia to 17 partners.  She will join fellow female partners Michelle Segaert (Corporate and Financial Services Partner), Margie Tannock (Regulation), Kylie Groves (Labour and Employment) and Clare Pope (Energy and Resources).

“Our firm is dynamic and collaborative with a client centred approach consistent with that of Amanda and her team.  We can’t wait for the team’s arrival and look forward to working with them,” added Sydney Managing Partner, Campbell Davidson.

Earlier this year, Ms. Banton was listed as one of Australasian Lawyer’s Hot 40 for her work in the case against Lehman Brothers Australia Limited, which resulted in the liquidators of Lehman Brothers agreeing to settle IMF-funded claims.  Ms. Banton was also recently named as an Australian "Local Dispute Star" for Restructuring and Insolvency in Legal Media Group Euromoney's 2013 Benchmark Asia-Pacific.
